This story has a little bit of a back story…
In 2014 I was going through a 2nd degree program at Marymount University. I was one of those students that just came to class, got my stuff done, and headed home to my life. I didn’t make a lot of friends. Then I met Josh. Josh was just one of those people that I clicked with. He’s a great person, funny, smart, and a talkative pain in the ass.
We became fast friends, and one night we planned to meet up with our significant others for dinner and to introduce them to each other. I was so nervous because I had heard such great things about Karen, and I wanted her to like me! Well Karen ended up being one of the nicest, most kind & generous people I have ever met. Karen and I became friends that night, and since then I have had the privilege of calling both of them 2 of my best friends.
So when Josh was talking to me in late 2014 about popping the question (he & Karen had been dating for about 8 years by that point), I told him that he should let me take pictures of the proposal. Since Karen & Josh had already agreed to model for me, we scheduled the session to take place at Great Falls on the Maryland side.
I’m not sure who was more nervous that day, me or Josh…I would say just kidding but I’m being serious. I was so afraid of missing something or giving away the surprise. We took some pictures of the two of them in their football jerseys, Karen in her Green Bay Packers jersey, and Josh representing the Redskins. I could feel the excitement and apprehension in the air from both Josh & myself.
We decided to do an outfit change, and while Josh was changing Karen asked me if Josh was ever going to propose to her. I freaked out inside thinking that maybe she knew what was going to happen today, and then she went on…
She said that they had been together for 8 years, and she knew that she was going to spend the rest of their lives together, so why hadn’t he asked her yet. She meant as in life, which made me breathe an internal sigh of relief. I told her that maybe he was waiting for after graduation, or getting his feet wet with nursing before he asked. I was stalling big time.
As Josh rejoined us, we started walking to the location that I had in mind for the proposal. I told Josh that we should do the pose we had talked about, (Karen was behind us and couldn’t hear, but we didn’t want to risk it) and he was on board.
So we got to this gorgeous spot, as the sun was setting behind the trees, and Josh said that he had a pose he wanted to try as he got down on one knee and asked Karen to spend the rest of her life by his side. Karen said yes, and cried happy tears. I had brought a bottle of champagne and champagne glasses for them to celebrate this momentous moment in their life.
It still makes me tear up just thinking of it.
Thank you Josh for trusting me with such an amazing and wondrous moment in you lives, and thank you both for believing in me, supporting me, and being 2 of the best friends a girl could ask for.
Here are the images from their proposal. Next week I will share one of their 2 engagement sessions with more history on these two love birds.
